Using Keynote and Clips to Showcase Student Concept Mastery

Updated: May 5, 2020

I had the opportunity to incorporate Clips and Keynotes in both my seventh and eighth grade classes around the same time. It was interesting to see the same apps being used for different content.

I taught my eighth graders about vital signs and the part these measurements play in diagnosing ill patients. My seventh graders had been working through the Design Process to design, build, and test a toy to be used in therapeutic offices. To show mastery of the content and showcase their work, I gave the students the option of using apps on the iPads to create a presentation. Both Keynote and Clips are very intuitive and easy to learn apps, so my students were able to catch on quickly. Learning to use the apps was not a hindrance to their ability to showcase their knowledge. The presentations looked professional and the students had fun with the assignment.

In the past I've done the same assignments with slideshows on the student laptops, but I had much more engagement this time around. I will continue to use the iPads as long as they are available to my students.
