Innovation Plan Implementation Outline
October 2019 - Apple Coding Initiative teacher meets with sixth grade teachers to propose idea of coming into core classes to introduce coding using Spheros. Coding lessons will support curriculum core subjects are already covering.
December 2019 - Propose idea to campus and district officials and ask for support/resources.
January 2020 - LISD provides student log-in information to allow our students to begin using the iPads and curriculum provided by Apple.
January through March 2020 - Coding Club participants and Gateway students will learn how to use the various resources and become experts in maneuvering and programming the Sphero robots.
March 2020 - Apple Coding Initiative teachers meet with sixth grade teachers to organize and schedule incorporation of programming lessons and activities through core classes.
April/May 2020 - Apple Coding Initiative teachers, Coding Club participants, and select Gateway students lead implementation of programming lessons to support the sixth grade core curriculum. Substitute teacher will be needed to cover classes of Apple Coding Initiative teachers.
May 2020 - Debrief with sixth grade teachers to discuss areas for celebration and improvement. Consideration will be given to opportunity to expand to other grade levels in the future.
